Cross-compatibility of CardWare formatted ATA cards with Windows 95/98/ME/2K/XP

CardWare do not format ATA cards her-self. On every OS (DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows NT) CardWare allows OS tools be used for cad format. CardWare supports ATA card with any number of partitions formatted under FAT (all OS), FAT32 (DOS 7 and later) and NTFS (Windows NT only). However one important point should be considered. Under CardWare the ATA card could be configured both: with or without Master Boot Record (MBR) and Partition table. CardWare for DOS/Windows also allows to create ATA card without MBR. Unfortunately ATA card w/o MBR will be not recognized under Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME/2K/XP.

If you plan use an ATA card for port information between Microsoft OS and CardWare, please make sure that card is formatted with MBR:

  1. Under DOS/Windows 9x/ME please use FDISK utility for create MBR.
  2. Under Windows NT/2K/XP please use 'Disk Administrator' utility from 'Administrative Tools'.

If you are not sure how card is formatted, you can erase an entire card formatting using PCDISK.EXE utility with /ES switch (please run PCDISK /? for help on PCDISK command line options).
