|Why my Flash/SRAM card doesn't work on notebook with O2Micro CardBus adapter?|
|Synopsis:||On Computer with O2Micro CardBus Adapter after installation of CardWare Memory Cards Support for Windows 2000/XP, CardWare Memory Cards Viewer is not able to detect a FLASH/SRAM card. Card is inserted into a socket, but the only message 'No supported memory card detected' is displayed in information pane. The Device Manager shows a conflict (Error Code 10) for the Generic Flash PC Card driver in the path PC Card and Flash Memory Devices|
|Reason:||Natively PC Card adapters were designed to map PC Card memory in
address space between 0 and 16MB. The CardBus specification allow to map
window anywhere between 0 and 4GB by implementing so called Page Register.
O2Micro adapters are using non-standard location for Page Register and are
not properly supported by Windows 2000 Original, SP1, SP2, SP3 and Windows
XP Original. Windows XP SP1 and Windows XP Tablet PC Edition are supporting
O2Micro adapters properly.
CardWare Memory Cards Support for Windows 2000/XP implements special handling for O2Micro adapters starting from version 1.00.004. Our product will work under any release of Windows 2000/XP, however with slower performance because paging is not supported properly by the OS.
|Solution:||Usage of Windows XP SP1 recommended. The Windows XP SP1 is available for free download on Microsoft WEB site (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/default.asp). If you cannot upgrade your system to Windows XP SP1, please use CardWare 7.0 for Windows 2000/XP and Server 2003.|
